Have you had a root canal treatment and a retreatment that have both proven unsuccessful? Has your infection still persisted despite the measures you have taken to prevent is from reoccurring? Our
Winfield endodontist, Dr. Linda Ricks, understands the frustrations associated with these failed treatments, and has a highly successful solution for you to consider. It is called an apicoectomy, or a root end resection. It is a special surgical procedure that is used to remove the infection from the root tip and the tissue that surrounds it. The procedure involves a series of steps to reach the desired goal and relieve your uncomfortable and painful symptoms.
Apicoectomy Winfield
First, our
Winfield endodontist will make a small incision in the gum tissue in order to expose the bone and the inflamed tissue that surrounds it. Dr. Ricks will then remove the tissue and the end of the root tip. After that, our Winfield endodontist will put a root-end filling in place in order to prevent further re-infection. To complete the procedure, sutures will be put in place at the gum line. After the procedure, you may feel slight discomfort and notice some swelling, but this is normal. Our
Winfield endodontist will recommend pain medication as needed. The area will take a few months to heal completely and get back to its full functioning capability, but the discomfort should not last any longer than a few days. After the healing period, you should feel confident that you will not experience any re-infection as a result of your apicoectomy.
