Our sedation dentist in Batavia specializes in endodontics, which deals specifically with teeth that have an infected pulp. If you suffer from this condition, Dr. Linda Ricks DDS will examine the affected area and use x-rays to determine the best course of treatment for the tooth that has either significant decay from a cavity or has deep cracks and chips to allow the pulp’s protective layers to be compromised. In most cases, the best treatment option will be a non-surgical endodontic therapy, formerly known as a root canal.
While root canals have been previously associated with pain, the reality is that they are actually painless due to advances in dental technology and dental anesthesia. Before the root canal begins the area is numbed using a topical anesthetic and then a local anesthetic to completely numb the nerves in the tooth and around the pulp. For those patients that are a little more anxious our sedation dentist in Batavia will administer nitrous oxide, which calms the patient and often gives them a feeling that been described as euphoria. Either with or without nitrous oxide the patient should feel no pain just slight pressure during the procedure.
Once our sedation dentist in Batavia finishes the endodontic treatment, the patient will go back to their own dentist who will remove the temporary filling and top the tooth with a crown. The restored tooth will look and function just as it originally did. If you have pain in a tooth or your dentist recommends endodontic treatment, we encourage you to call our office to set up a consultation.
