If you have tooth pain, or a known crack tooth, you will want to visit us at our endodontic practice, Linda Ricks, DDS, MS, PC. Our top-notch dentist Naperville IL, Dr. Linda Ricks, has been providing expert endodontic care for our community for more than 15 years.
When a patient is experiencing pain from a cracked tooth it may be very difficult to diagnose. This is because when pressure is placed upon the tooth and the crack opens, the pain may occur. However, once pressure is removed from the tooth and the tooth appears to close, the crack cannot be seen. Pain from a cracked tooth can be extremely difficult to diagnose. However, when you come to our endodontic practice with any type of tooth pain, you can be sure that our dentist Naperville IL will be able to determine the exact cause of the tooth pain and provide the treatment that is necessary to save the tooth. When a tooth is cracked, the chewing motion can cause movement irritation of the pulp in the center of the tooth. This can eventually cause damage to the tooth. When infection develops, you will experience tooth pain, and our dentist will most likely need to provide you with a root canal treatment to save the tooth. If the crack goes beneath the gum lines, the tooth probably cannot be saved, and will need to be extracted to prevent infection from worsening and spreading. When a cracked tooth is extracted it can be replaced with a dental bridge or dental implant. However, hopefully our endodontist can save the tooth with root canal treatment. During a root canal procedure, our endodontist will gain access to the center of the tooth, and all infected and damaged pulp will be removed. The entire tooth and root canal system will be thoroughly cleaned and sealed. Root canal procedures are successful in saving teeth in over 90% of cases.
