At the office of Linda Ricks, DDS, MS, PC, we utilize state-of-the-art technology and methods of care to help treat severely compromised teeth, restore oral health and retain your natural teeth in the dental arch. While root canal therapy has a very high 95% rate of success, there are a small percentage of cases where endodontic retreatment or an apicoectomy may be needed. As a skilled specialist, our endodontist provides the most precise and gentle care to resolve any further issues that may emerge in a tooth that has received a root canal procedure.
Endodontic treatment addresses damage that lies beneath the tooth’s outermost surface, within the center layer of core tissues, blood vessels and nerves, which comprise the dental pulp. While a root canal procedure can treat infection and alleviate oral pain when there is damage to the dental pulp, some teeth with unusual anatomy, extra nerve canals, or other challenges may require an additional procedure. In such cases, our endodontist may recommend endodontic retreatment or apicoectomy. You can rest assured that your oral health is in the best of hands at our office. We utilize state-of-the-art operating microscopes, which provide optimal visualization of even the most complex root anatomy along with microsurgical instruments and advanced techniques to deliver treatment with the utmost precision. During endodontic retreatment, we’ll re-enter the pulp chamber and check for any previously undetected canals, then clean the area and seal the tooth to prevent reinfection. An apicoectomy is a minor surgical procedure that can also provide an excellent next step for preserving a previously treated tooth. It involves removing a few millimeters of the tooth’s root tip, then placing biocompatible filling materials to prevent subsequent infection. We’ll keep you informed and at ease throughout your visit, and offer safe and controlled sedation techniques to mitigate any anxiety or discomfort.
