Our
Aurora Illinois endodontist, Linda Ricks, DDS, MS, PC, treats a variety of emergencies that result from traumatic dental injuries, such as avulsed, dislodged and fractured teeth. Most chipped teeth can be repaired with a simple filling but if the pulp of the tooth is exposed, it may be treated by placing a filling over the injured area. Damages in the back teeth often include fractured cusps, cracked teeth and split teeth. If the fracture does not extend into the root, the tooth can actually be restored by Dr. Ricks. If the crack does extend into the root but affects the pulp, root canal treatment is usually recommended in an attempt to save all, or part, of your tooth.

Although teeth are very strong, they can still break and fracture. The causes are many including, getting hit in your mouth, falling down, eating something hard that breaks your tooth, and your teeth being weakened due to a cavity. Our
Aurora Illinois endodontist treats a variety of emergencies that result from stressful dental injuries, one being fractured teeth.
A fractured tooth often goes unnoticed because it doesn’t always hurt when it breaks. This, of course, depends on the size of the break and where it’s located in your mouth. Pain usually occurs if there is damage to the pulp or base of the tooth surface, or if the tooth is exposed to saliva, air, or extremely cold or hot food and drinks. Our
Aurora Illinois endodontist will need to see your fractured tooth as soon as possible, not only for repair, but to see if there is a cavity or nerve damage. If nerve damage is found then you will most likely need a root canal. If a child’s tooth fractures and there is nerve damage, there is a very good chance of it repairing itself if it’s treated right away. If fractures are minor and only affect the outer layer of the tooth, our
Aurora Illinois endodontist will just need to file and polish the damaged tooth to achieve the desired result. Combining state-of-the-art equipment with current technology, Dr. Ricks is skilled in the most advanced endodontic techniques to repair, save and preserve your fractured teeth.
